"I have come to work in youth ministry by God’s hand. My path in life has taken me through a variety of experiences. It is amazing how these experiences contribute to the things I bring to youth ministry. I have a degree in physical education with a science minor and a specialization in athletic training (Yes, it’s true I was a trainer for a short time with the New York Jets.). I then went on to get a degree in physical therapy and continued to work towards a masters in corporate communications. Two babies in two years prevented me from pursuing my masters but I did continue to practice physical therapy. With the help of my fantastic husband, Joe, we opened three physical therapy clinics and started a consulting firm for injury prevention in industries. Through work in industry, I obtained knowledge and developed skills in conflict resolution. I then applied these skills in medical, government, and church settings. As time went on, I felt a strong call to be a full-time, stay-at-home, home schooling mom. During this time, I began to pour myself into my children as well as others in the youth group at FUMC. My daughter Kaitlyn has completed her degree in biology. She is now happily married, living in New Hampshire with her husband wonderful husband, David Simmers. He serves in the Coast Guard, is a loving husband, and a great son-in-law. My son, Chris, is an honor student at Lee University, developing his creativity and intellect. My husband, Joe, and I have been married more than 20 years with many adventures.
All of this seems so trivial compared to the things I have seen Jesus Christ do in me and in others around me. On November 11, 1995, I truly began to experience a new fullness of his presence and the reality of his power in my life. He continues to reveal more of himself with each passing day challenging me in new ways. It is exciting to watch his hand at work both with in me and with in the students here at FUMC. I cannot imagine a day with out Jesus and His love."
