Blane was born and reared in Tallahassee, Florida. He graduated from Rickard's High School in 1970, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in military police and drill sargeant roles. He then attended Liberty University, where he earned his bachelor's in business administration. He served as a church administrator in Tallahassee and continued to serve in the army reserves, before deciding to venture to the "foreign country" of Minnesota in the late 1970's, through the influence of a college friend who was a youth pastor in a new church plant in Woodbury.
Blane began and led a large and vibrant college/career ministry at the church, where he met and married Sandy. They served actively in both church and academy capacities over a 25 year period, the latter 15 years during which Blane was the Business Administrator for New Life Academy, managing finances for the academy, handling human resources/benefits for both church and school, overseeing major multi-million dollar building expansion projects, as well as overseeing technology and transportation.
Blane is not just a "number-cruncher," however. Blane's spiritual gifts are administration and service/helps—a unique blend that allows him to roll up his sleeves and serve as well as organize and lead. He and Sandy also have an unquenchable heart for missions. Early in their family life, compelled by the love of Christ for unreached peoples around the world, the family entered missions training. Blane has traveled with short-term teams to Papua New Guinea, Ukraine, Colombia, Brazil, and Belize. Sandy loves to tutor emigrants in ESL (English as a Second Language). Blane keeps native artifacts in his office as a reminder to actively pray for unreached peoples and to be a "sender" of others who are able to go.
Blane is a smooth jazz and FSU football fan. He is thrilled God has called him "back home" to the panhandle, closer to his family and warmer weather. "There's no doubt I'm in the right place," Blane said as he began serving FUMC in October 2004 as Minister of Administration. "God is at work through the ministries, the staff are so great to work with, and this is the 'prayin-ist church' and most 'volunteering' church I've ever seen!"
