Acts 2:14-21
1. In our Scripture today, how did Peter explain the unusual phenomena that were occurring among the believers? Which prophet had foretold this? How long was that before this happened? For whom is the baptism of the Holy Spirit? (Acts 2:17) What was the powerful result that day of the outpouring of God's Spirit? (Acts 2:41) Do you think God wants us to share the Gospel in such a way that people come to Christ? Why? In all honesty, have you ever led one person to Jesus Christ in your entire Christian life? (Not to be answered out loud). Why or why not? What is it that you need to lead people to Christ?
2. What is the promise of John 14:12-14? How can we accomplish this in our own power? How is it that Jesus intends to accomplish the things with us that He intends?
3. Who is the Holy Spirit? What word is used interchangeably for the Holy Spirit? (Acts 5:3-5) Look up the following Scriptures and name five attributes of God that are given to the Holy Spirit: (1) Ps. 139:7-10; (2) I Cor. 2:10, 11; (3) Luke 1:35; (4) Heb. 9:14; (5) John 16:13; How is the Holy Spirit used in the following Scriptures: Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14; I Pet. 1:1-2; Jude 20-21? Note how the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and God are joined together. What do you think this says about the three? For further study look up these verses to see how the Holy Spirit was involved in the life of Jesus: Luke 1:35; Acts 10:38; Matt. 4:1; Heb. 9:14; Rom. 8:11 Acts 1:2. Who is the Holy Spirit? He is God Himself!!
4. For what reasons was the Holy Spirit to come? (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13,15; Acts 1:8; 4:31; 8:15; 9:17; 15:8, 9)
5. What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit? (John 10:10; 15:5, 16; Galatians 5:22, 23; Acts 1:8; Matt. 4:19) Would you agree that God has provided for us an abundant and fruitful Christian life? Why is it that most Christians are not experiencing this abundant life? (Rom. 7:15-24; I Cor. 3:1-3) Ignorance? Lack of faith? Disobedience? Lack of submission? Fails to draw upon the power of the Holy Spirit? Why would someone not trust God with his/her life?
6. How can one be filled with the Holy Spirit? How did you become a Christian? (Eph. 2:8, 9) Then, we must continue to walk by faith. (Col. 2:6) How should we prepare our hearts? (Matt. 5:6; Rom. 12:1, 2; I John 1:9) What are two things that we need to remember? (Eph. 5:18; I John 5:14, 15) Are you willing to give the Holy Spirit full control of your life right now? What new surrenders would you have to make? Why not now?
