Beginning at the Beginning
Exodus 20:1-17 (vs. 3)
The existence of God
Who He is
What does He require of us
This is exactly WHY God has taken so much care to reveal himself
to man.
-- So that we will be His people and He will be our God.
We learn who God is through REVELATION.
-- The bible is God’s record of Him revealing Himself to man through
the history
and events of their lives.
I. The Revelation of Exodus: There is One God and No Other
“Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from
under the yoke of the Egyptians… I am the Lord.” (Ex. 6:1-8)
God has revealed and proven to the world:
1. There is One God and no other.
2. Nowhere else is there One.
II. Therefore… You shall
have no other gods before me. You are to worship me exclusively.
Whatever it is that we are, have or have use of God is behind it all – and
He is worthy to expect/demand our recognition of him and his desires.
III. We break the 1st Commandment whenever we disregard his Lordship.
Two ways we worship other gods.
1. Flagrant disregard – “Pharaoh type”
2. Subtle disregard – “Religious type”
