The Bargain Box was opened in 1957 as a project of the Young Adult Sunday School class. The purpose of the venture was to help members of the community find used but affordable items for their families; to finance needed furniture and appliances for the church parsonage; and to donate funds and clothing to other missionary work as the need was presented.
The number of volunteer workers has grown from six to over sixty. We honor all Sharing and Caring requests and any local church (Twin Cities area) benevolent requests.
In 2006 we were able to assist 117 families with clothing and household items. We gave clothing, books and assorted items to missions in the Middle East, Mexico, Florida, Haiti and our Missions Conference.
We gave monetary assistance to FUMC Benevolence, Sharing and Caring, His House, C.A.R.S., Good News Prison Ministry, A Family's Future, "Meet Me at the Dump", braces for a child, school supplies for Mission in Mexico, roof for FUMC Choctaw Beach, FUMC Benevolence building fund, White Christmas and the Asbury Fund.
We have made a pledge to give monthly to the FUMC Benevolence, Sharing and Caring, Good News Prison Ministry, C.A.R.S. and A Family's Future.
